This is a structured full-day workshop running from 9:30am to 4:00pm. Participants work through real examples and hands-on tasks, building towards creating and evaluating their own web presence by the end of the day.

    We start by widening the definition of web presence beyond "having a website." Participants understand the options, from websites and local listings to social and mobile, and how to choose the right mix for their actual goals.

  • How websites really work

    Plain-English explanations of domains, hosting, web addresses, and page structure. No code, no technical jargon. Participants leave able to have confident conversations about the fundamentals.

  • Website key ingredients

    Choosing the right domain, planning navigation and page structure, and thinking like a visitor rather than like a business owner. Participants practise these choices on real scenarios.

  • Websites and business goals

    How to align what your website does with what your business actually needs. Participants learn to audit their own pages for friction, missing calls to action, and unclear messaging.

  • Web tools and templates

    A practical tour of the web tools available today. Participants explore templates and themes and learn how to choose the right tool for the right context without being locked into expensive builds.

  • User Experience - what most sites get wrong

    The difference between UI and UX, why it matters, and how to spot the failures that cost businesses customers every day. Participants analyse real examples and learn from a 10-year UX expert's top tips.

  • SEO basics - getting found on search

    How search engines actually work. How to choose keywords people actually use. Why content should be written for humans first. Participants finish this section understanding the principles that drive every SEO decision.

  • Analytics - making decisions with data

    An introduction to heatmaps and Google Analytics. Participants learn to read the data that matters, spot where users are dropping off, and understand what to optimise next.

  • Build and test

    How to align what your website does with what your business actually needs. Participants learn to audit their own pages for friction, missing calls to action, and unclear messaging.

  • Essential skills and what comes next

    The session closes with reflection on the wider skills digital demands, aligned with the Skills Development Scotland Meta Skills framework, and a clear set of next steps for each participant.

Online via Zoom or Teams

For distributed teams or remote-first organisations, we deliver the full session online. The format is adapted to keep energy and interaction high throughout the day.

Open cohort

There are no formal prerequisites required for the Web Presence Training Course. However below are essential for the learning environment. 

  • The learners must have a device that they can access the online session with, either a mobile phone, tablet or computer. 
  • Learners must be confident using a mouse and keyboard. 
  • Sessions will be delivered in English. 
  • Sessions will be delivered using the latest version of softwares. 
  • Learners’ technology should be up to date and charged.
